Police charge man after pursuit – South of Wollongong

A man has been charged with a number of offences, following an alleged pursuit in the Illawarra yesterday.

About 12.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 16 January 2024), police spotted an alleged stolen sedan on the Princes Highway, Unanderra.

A short time later, a pursuit began on Central Road, Unanderra.

The driver turned onto Staff Road, Unanderra where he allegedly lost control of his car before it mounted the median strip.

The driver allegedly fled the scene on foot along Staff Road, before he was arrested by officers attached to the Southern Operations Group.

During a search of the vehicle police located and seized drugs, a knife, and cash.

The 34 year-old man was conveyed to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with thirteen (13) offences

  • Drive conveyance taken without consent
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly
  • Drive whilst disqualified
  • Supply prohibited drug > indictable
  • Possess prohibited drug x4
  • Deal with proceeds of crime
  • Custody of a knife
  • Enter enclosed lands
  • Malicious damage
  • Use vehicle with unauthorised number plates.

He fronted Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 17 January) where he was remanded in custody to re-appear on Tuesday 30 January 2024.
