Police charge man after service station fire at Coolac

Arson Unit detectives have charged a man following an investigation into a fire which destroyed a service station near Gundagai in September this year.

About 10pm on Tuesday 5 September 2023, emergency services were called to a service station on Coolac Road in Coolac, just off the Hume Highway in the state’s south.

Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the property. There were no reports of injuries.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries before State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad Arson Unit took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Dosed.

Following inquiries by Strike Force detectives, about 9.40am today (Wednesday 6 December 2023), a 42-year-old man was arrested at Narellan Police Station.

He was charged with destroy or damage property by fire.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Picton Local Court today (Wednesday 6 December 2023), where bail was formally refused. He will appear before Cootamundra Local Court on Monday 18 December 2023.
