Police charge man over altercation – Eastern Suburbs PAC

A man has been charged over his alleged involvement in an altercation in the Eastern Suburbs last night.

About 10.10pm (Wednesday 15 November 2023), a silver Toyota Corolla hatchback was travelling on O’Brien Street at North Bondi, when it passed a white Mercedes sedan travelling in the opposite direction towards Old South Head Road.

Police have been told the hatchback conducted a U-Turn and continued onto Old South Head Road, before both vehicles came to a stop and the drivers were involved in a verbal argument.

The driver’s side mirror of the hatchback was smashed by a rock, before the vehicle drove away and attended a nearby service station, with the sedan arriving a short time later.

The driver of the hatchback – a 19-year-old man – and the occupants of the sedan – four teenage boys all aged 17 – proceeded to exit their vehicles before a further verbal altercation broke out.

Police patrolling the area arrived a short time later and separated the groups.

No one was injured in the incident.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command have commenced an investigation in the incident.

Following inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested at a home in Bondi about 12pm today (Thursday 16 November 2023) and taken to Bondi Police Station.

He was charged with affray and use offensive implement with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 12 December 2023.

The four teens will be dealt with in accordance with the Young Offenders Act.
