Police Charge Man Over Armed Robbery – Summer Hill

A man has been charged over the alleged armed hold-up of a jewellery store in Sydney’s Inner West.

About 8.25am today (Wednesday 5 March 2025), officers from Burwood Police Area Command responded to reports staff at a jewellery store on Parramatta Road at Summer Hill had been robbed.

Officers were told a man entered the store and allegedly threatened two staff members before he left with jewellery.

A short time later, police patrolling the area chased the man along Sloane Street, Haberfield, where he was arrested.

During the arrest OC spray was deployed and a replica revolver secured along with property from the store being recovered.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 47-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for observation where he was later conveyed to Burwood Police Station.

A male senior constable suffered minor injuries during the arrest.

There were no reports of any other injuries.

A crime scene was established, and investigation by Burwood detectives commenced.

The man was charged with 10 offences:

– Take person with intent commit serious indictable offence (two charges)

– Robbery while armed with dangerous weapon

– Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty

– Possess unauthorised pistol

– Acquire pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order

– Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (two charges)

– Acquire pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order

– Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority

The man was refused bail and is due to appear in Burwood Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 6 March 2025).
