Police Charge Man Over Arson Attack – Guildford West

Police have charged a man over an alleged arson attack on a home in Sydney’s south west.

About 1.15am yesterday (Friday 12 June 2026), emergency services responded to reports of a house fire in Hunt Street, Guildford West.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire which caused extensive damage to the home.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

A number of empty fuel cans and gas bottles were located within the premises.

The home has been vacant which has been the subject of previous arson attacks and drive by shootings.

Police were informed that two persons were allegedly seen at the premises immediately before the fire started.

The persons were then seen to enter a silver sedan which drove north along Lomond Street.

Following extensive inquiries officers – with the assistance of the Public Order and Riot Squad – arrested a 24-year-old man at a service station on Cabramatta Road West, Bonnyrigg, about 2.40am today (Saturday 13 June 2026).

He was taken to Cabramatta Police Station and charged with Destroy etc property in company use fire etc >$5000.

The Malabar man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 6 later today (Saturday 13 June 2026).

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
