Expanded Emergency Department In Casey On Way

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is making it easier for families in Melbourne’s south east to access the emergency care they need closer to home.

Works have now started on the major expansion of Casey Hospital’s emergency department.

The expansion will ensure the emergency department can care for an additional 52,000 patients every year.

Once complete, the new emergency department will include:

  • 15 new fast track spaces
  • 30 new emergency care cubicles
  • 20 new short stay beds
  • 7 new resuscitation bays.

The expansion also includes new consultation rooms and a mental health zone.

A specifically designed children’s ED zone will also be delivered – giving children with a private and calm space to get the care they need.

The project is expected to create more than 1,000 construction jobs and support additional medical jobs once open.

With piling works now almost complete, the ED expansion is expected to be complete next year.

Labor has built 11 new hospitals across Victoria – and only Labor will keep building them.

Jess Wilson’s Liberals will cut $40 billion in services – that means cuts to hospitals, cuts to nurses, cuts to care.

As stated by Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne

“More beds, more bays, more care – this expansion means families will get the emergency care they need, right on their doorstep.”

As stated by Member for South-Eastern Metropolitan Lee Tarlamis

“This expansion means more local families can get high-quality emergency care when they need it most.”

As stated by Member for South-Eastern Metropolitan Region Michael Galea

“We’re investing in the hospitals our growing communities rely on, so locals can access faster care without having to travel far from home.”
