Police charge man over arson incident at Happy Valley, South Australia

A man will face court next month charged over a Molotov cocktail incident at a southern suburbs home.

About 5.20am on Saturday 5 September, the victim heard an explosion coming from the driveway of his Miller Drive, Happy Valley home.

On investigation, he found two small fires burning in the driveway and near the front door, which he extinguished with a fire extinguisher and called police.

Investigators determined two Molotov cocktails had been thrown at the property. They were seized for forensic examination. Fortunately, there was only minor damage as a result and no injuries.

Detectives believe the wrong address was targeted by this incident.

On Monday 7 September, Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives arrested a 32-year-old Paralowie man and charged him with two counts of acts likely to cause harm. He has been remanded in custody and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 22 October.

Enquiries are continuing and police wish to speak with a second man believed to be involved in the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Denise Gray, Officer in Charge, Serious Crime Taskforce, said, “The Serious and Organised Crime Branch consider this type of offending to be a significant risk to public safety and will leave no stone unturned to bring the offenders to justice.”
