Police Charge Man Over Attempted Murder At Deniliquin

A man has been charged after a woman was taken to a hospital with multiple stab wounds in the state’s south overnight.

Just after 11.10pm yesterday (Saturday 16 May 2026), emergency services were called to a home on Wakool Road, Deniliquin, following reports of a woman with stab wounds.

On arrival, officers attached to Murray River Police District were told the 53-year-old woman was assaulted and stabbed by a man known to her at a house nearby.

She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken to a hospital for further treatment.

Following inquiries, about 12.40am today (Sunday 17 May 2026), police attended another home on the same street and arrested a 65-year-old man.

He was taken to Deniliquin Police Station where he was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder (DV).

The 65-year-old was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Local Court 5 today, where he was further refused bail to appear before Griffith Local Court on Thursday 16 July 2026.
