A man will face court charged with a string of alleged firearms offences in the state’s far south-west this week.
On Sunday 14 June 2026, officers attached to Barrier Police District commenced an investigation into alleged unlawful firearms possession in the Balranald area.
Following inquiries, about 10am on Thursday 18 June 2026, police arrested a 43-year-old man at Balranald Police Station.
The man was subject to a search, during which police seized a knife and two electronic devices.
About 11.15am the same day, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Harben Street, Balranald, where they allegedly located and seized approximately 10 grams of cannabis, an air rifle, a taser, and nunchaku.
In a shed on the property, officers located and seized four firearms including a break-action combination gun, two rifles, a shotgun, and ammunition.
The man was taken to Dareton Police Station where he was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for the charges of,
- Possess prohibited drug
- Custody of knife in public place
- Possess greater than 3 unregistered firearms without licence/permit
- Not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm
- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
- Unauthorised person fail to surrender firearm
- Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.
The man is due to appear before Wentworth Local Court on Tuesday 4 August 2026.
