Police charge man over hammer attack in Ultimo

A man will appear in Court later today after allegedly striking a man in the head with a hammer at Ultimo last month.

About 1.20pm on Saturday 11 July 2020, a 28-year-old man was walking along Systrum Street, Ultimo when he was approached by a man who struck him a number of times in the head with a hammer.

The man managed to report the matter to police, while his alleged attacker left the scene in a black 4WD.

On arrival, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command found the victim has suffered serious lacerations to his head.

The injured man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull.

Following extensive inquiries, on Thursday 30 July 2020, police arrested a 31-year-old man in the ACT. He was extradited and charged with cause grievous bodily harm to a person with intent. He remains before the Courts.

On Tuesday 11 August 2020, a 25-year-old man was arrested at Day Street Police Station. He was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.

He was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court today (Tuesday 11 August 2020).
