Police charge man with 20 offences after damage at Essendon church

A man will face court today after being charged with 20 offences following two separate incidents of criminal damage at a religious facility in Essendon in April and May.

During the first alleged incident on 20 April, the man approached a makeshift war memorial that was set-up outside the Buckley Street church, picked up a vase within the memorial and allegedly threw it at the church causing damage at around 8.30pm.

It’s alleged the same man attended outside the same church on 14 May where he allegedly threw another vase at the church causing damage at about 6.50am.

Officers from Moonee Ponds Police Station yesterday executed a search warrant on Buckley Street in Essendon where they arrested a 37-year-old man in relation to the alleged incidents.

He was charged with 20 offences including criminal damage, wilful damage, committing an indictable offence whilst on bail and others.

He has been remanded to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court today.
