Police charge man with murder in Roselands

A man has been charged after the body of an elderly man was found in his home in Sydney’s south west.

Emergency services were called to a home on Hillview Street about 9.55pm on Wednesday (19 January 2023), following reports a man had been stabbed.

Officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command attended and located the body of a 91-year-old man.

Two officers were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor chemical burns before being taken to St George Hospital for assessment; they have since been released.

Fire and Rescue NSW rendered the scene safe for investigators to examine the crime scene.

About 11.15pm, a 24-year-old man was arrested on nearby Phillip Street and was taken to hospital under police guard for treatment of arm and leg injuries.

Detectives attached to Campsie Police Area Command, assisted by State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident under Strike Force Dorlton.

Multiple crime scenes were established and examined by specialist forensic police.

The man remains in hospital under police guard and today (Friday 20 January 2023) detectives charged him with murder.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear before court by way of bedside hearing tomorrow (Saturday 21 January 2023).
