Police charge man with traffic offences after pursuit in Concord

A man has been charged following a pursuit in Sydney’s Inner West last night.

Just before 11.30pm (Saturday 23 May 2020), officers from Burwood Police Area Command attempted to stop a Volkswagen Golf on William Street, Concord, after checks revealed the vehicle previously failed to stop for police on Wednesday (20 May 2020).

Police will allege the Volkswagen failed to stop and as it drove away, it crashed into the curb on Brays Road.

A short pursuit was initiated, before the vehicle slowed down and the two male occupants exited on Bayview Street and fled on foot.

Further police, assisted by the Dog Unit and the Aviation Command, located the pair – a 21-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy – walking on Ward Street.

The driver, a 21-year-old Concord man, was arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit-not stop-drive dangerously, owner not disclose identify of driver/passenger, and responsible person/custodian not disclose driver’s details.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 3 August 2020.

The boy was arrested at the scene, however, released pending further inquiries.
