Police Charge Teen After Car Fire – Merrylands

A teenage boy has been charged following a car fire in Merrylands last month.

About 1.15am on Tuesday 10 February 2026, emergency services were called to Haven Street, Merrylands after reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended and found an Audi sedan well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the vehicle was destroyed.

There were no reports of injuries.

A crime scene has been established as an investigation into the incident commenced.

Following inquiries, about 10:45pm yesterday (Friday 20 March 2026), detectives attended a home in Fairway Drive, Norwest, where a 17-year-old boy was arrested.

He was taken to Castle Hill Police Station and charged with 16 offences:

  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner (two counts)
  • Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner (four counts)
  • Learner not accompanied by driver/police officer (three counts)
  • Learner driver not display “L” plates as prescribed (three counts)
  • Destroy property in company use fire
  • Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
  • Stop in disabled parking area no current permit
  • Minor operate gaming machine in hotel/club

He was refused bail to appear before a Children’s Court today, Saturday 21 March 2026.
