A teenage boy has been charged after allegedly shooting a man in the leg in Bexley yesterday.
About 11.30am on Sunday 29 March 2020, emergency services were called to Downey Street, Bexley, after reports shots were fired.
Officers from St George Police Area Command attended and established that an altercation had taken place between a 29-year-old man and 16-year-old boy, who were known to each other.
It is alleged the 16-year-old boy produced a shortened rifle from his pants and shot the 29-year-old man in the thigh.
The man and teenager then got into a brief struggle, with the man punching the teen, causing a laceration to his face.
The man ran towards Mimosa Street where he flagged down a passing vehicle and was driven to St George Hospital.
A crime scene was established at Downey Street around 11.45pm and officers commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries, police attended a nearby home on St Georges Road, Bexley and arrested a 16-year-old boy. He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment for the injuries to his face.
At 10pm yesterday, the teenager was released from hospital and taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with discharge firearm cause grievous bodily harm, possess prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence, fire firearm in a public place, and possess prohibited drug.
The boy was refused bail to appear in a children’s court today (Monday 30 March 2020).
The man was released after being treated in hospital and did not require surgery.
