Police charge two after erratic driving through Ballarat

Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit and Divisional Response Unit detectives have charged two men after an allegedly stolen vehicle was seen driving erratically in the Ballarat area yesterday afternoon.

Police were initially called after an allegedly stolen BMW X5 was sighted in Sebastopol on Thursday 7 October about 12.30pm.

Officers, with the assistance of the Air Wing, were able to track the car to a shopping centre carpark where it’s alleged the male driver and passenger dumped the car and fled on foot.

Police located and arrested the two men in an adjoining retirement village a short time later.

An 18-year-old Ballarat man has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and other traffic related offences.

He has been remanded to the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court today.

A 16-year-old Ballarat East boy has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and other traffic related offences.

He has been remanded to appear a Children’s’ Court at a later date.
