Police charge two after search warrant in Riverina

A man and woman have been charged over alleged drug offences and break and enters near Tumut over the past month.

Between Friday 20 August 2021 and Sunday 19 September 2021, three rural properties were broken into in the Buccleuch Forest area, east of Tumut, where tools and harvesting machinery were stolen, along with 500L of diesel.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District commenced an investigation into the break and enters, which are believed to be linked.

Following extensive inquiries, a search warrant was executed at a home on Russell Street, Tumut, just after 9.30am yesterday (Wednesday 29 September 2021).

During the search, officers seized more than 6.5g of methylamphetamine (ice), cannabis, heroin, an electronic stun device and ammunition.

Police also located tools and 320L of diesel alleged to have been stolen.

During the operation, a 29-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Tumut Police Station.

The man was charged with 11 offences including;

  • Larceny (x4),
  • neglect child (x2),
  • deal with property proceeds of crime,
  • possess prohibited drug,
  • supply prohibited drug (indicatable quantity),
  • possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and,
  • possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Tumut Local Court on Monday 22 November 2021.

The woman was charged with supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, two counts of neglect child or young person in his/her care, and deal with property proceeds of crime.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Tumut Local Court on Monday 13 December 2021.
