Police charge two men over stabbing – Surry Hills

Detectives have charged two men over the alleged stabbing and serious wounding of two men in Surry Hills earlier this year.

Shortly after 3am on Saturday 29 July 2023, emergency services were called to Oxford Street, following reports of a stabbing outside a nightclub.

Police will allege in court that a 25-year-old man was approached by a group of men – armed with knives – and stabbed multiple times. A 34-year-old man was also allegedly stabbed, when he came to the aid of the younger man.

Both have since been released from hospital.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Jacob.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators – with the assistance of Queensland Police – arrested a 21-year-old man in Redbank Plains, Queensland, on Thursday (21 September 2023).

Surry Hills Detectives applied for, and were granted, the man’s extradition to New South Wales.

Yesterday (Friday 22 September 2023), the man was escorted to Sydney and taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, reckless wounding – in company, and affray.

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 23 September 2023).

Following further inquiries, investigators arrested an 18-year-old man at a home in Lalor Park about 6.35am the same day (Friday 22 September 2023).

He was taken to Riverstone Police Station where he was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, reckless wounding – in company, affray, possess unauthorised pistol, and not keep firearm safely-pistol.

The man was refused bail and appeared before Blacktown Local Court the same day, where he was formally refused bail to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 16 November 2023.

Investigations under Strike Force Jacob are continuing.
