Police charge two people after pursuit – Surry Hills

A man and a teenage boy have been charged following an alleged pursuit in Sydney’s CBD.

About 11pm (Thursday 16 November 2023), police responded to reports a vehicle was driving dangerously on Oxford and Young Streets, Surry Hills.

Police sighted the vehicle and attempted to stop it at the intersection of South Dowling and Cleveland Streets; however, the vehicle failed to stop as directed and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle, a Toyota Landcruiser – reportedly stolen from a Queensland address – continued along South Dowling Street before crashing into approximately thirty vehicles – both moving and stationary – before stopping, near the intersection of Crescent Street.

Four people were seen fleeing on foot before allegedly getting into an Uber.

Following inquiries, about 4.30pm on Friday 17 November 2023, officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended a home in Bossley Park and arrested a 22-year-old man, two boys – aged 12, 17 – and a 16-year-old girl.

They were taken to Fairfield Police Station.

The 17-year-old was charged with unlicensed for class, class C, R, LR or MR, drive recklessly/furiously or speed manner dangerous, destroy or damage property, not give particulars to other driver, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Saturday 18 November 2023.

The 22-year-old man was charged with unlicensed for class, class C, R, LR or MR, and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday 18 November 2023.

The 16-year-old girl will be dealt with under the young offenders Act.
