Police charge woman after fatal crash – Budgewoi

A woman has been charged following an investigation into a fatal crash earlier this month on the state’s Central Coast.

Just after 11am on Wednesday 12 April 2023, emergency services were called to Budgewoi Road, Budgewoi, following reports of a crash between a Volkswagen Golf and Toyota Corolla.

Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the passenger of the Toyota – an 81-year-old woman – died at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 44-year-old woman, and the driver of the Toyota, a 62-year-old woman, were taken to John Hunter Hospital, both in a serious condition.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District established a crime scene that was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

After being released from hospital yesterday (Friday 21 April 2023) the younger woman was arrested by police and taken to Waratah Police Station where she was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasioning death).

She has been refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court later today (Saturday 22 April 2023).

Her licence has also been suspended.
