Police charge woman after Hamlyn Heights carjacking

A woman was held down by members of the public until police arrived following an alleged carjacking in Hamlyn Heights on Sunday evening.

Investigators have been told a 74-year-old woman was in her car at traffic lights at the intersection of Shannon Avenue and Church Street about 5.15pm when a woman approached the car and threatened the victim with a knife.

The victim got out of her car at the direction of the woman who then got into the vehicle but was unable to drive it away.

Several witnesses rushed to assist the 74-year-old, removed the woman from the car and held her till police arrived.

A 27-year-old woman from Norlane has been charged with aggravated carjacking and has been remanded to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court later today.
