Police charge woman with $930k fraud in Murrumbidgee

A woman has been charged with fraud following an investigation in the state’s south west.

Officers from Murrumbidgee Police District commenced inquiries into the woman in February 2020, following reports of a break and enter at a store in Hillston.

Following extensive inquiries, police allege the woman was stealing money from various online banking accounts as well as fraudulently applying for credit cards and personal loans using multiple people’s identities.

Police will allege the woman attempted to fraudulently obtain more than $933,000 over a period of four months, securing thousands in merchandise and cash in the process.

Police will allege the woman broke into a store in Hillston in the early hours of Tuesday 25 February 2020 and stole cash and stock – including clothing and jewellery – worth more than $2,000.

A search warrant was executed at a Hillston home about 11am today (Thursday 30 April 2020), with investigators locating and seizing computers, tablets, telephones and sim cards.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station, where she was charged with four counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception and break, enter and steal.

She was refused bail and is due to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Friday 1 May 2020).

Inquiries are continuing and further charges are expected to be laid.
