A woman has been charged after allegedly attempting to take prohibited drugs into a correctional centre in the state’s central west on the weekend.
Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District were called to a correctional centre on Mudgee-Goolma Road, Wellington, about 9.15am Sunday 23 August 2026, following reports a person had attempted to bring prohibited drugs into the facility.
Police arrived and were told a 34-year-old woman had allegedly attempted to bring in cannabis and buprenorphine strips on her way in to visit a person when a drug detection dog gave a positive indication.
Officers allege the woman made attempts to throw the prohibited drugs into a nearby paddock during a search.
The woman was arrested and taken to Wellington Police Station where she was charged with six offences,
- Possess prohibited drug (two counts)
- Supply prohibited drug less than or equal to small quantity
- Bring etc prohibited drug/plant into place of detention
- Unlawfully bring etc anything into place of detention, and
- Breach of bail.
The woman was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 4 yesterday (Monday 24 August 2026), where she was formally refused bail to reappear before Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 27 August 2026.
