Police conducting Fatal Five focus week targeting road safety across the northern district – protecting the people behind every journey

Northern District Police are putting road users on notice as a Fatal Five focus week begins across the district today.

Acting Inspector Luke Negri said the operation will run in separate phases throughout the week, coinciding with the return of term four for schools, with the aim of improving road safety. Additionally, police will specifically target offences in school zones to help protect children, families and school communities.

“Through education and enforcement, police will target Fatal Five offences and build on the district’s reduction in serious crashes,” said Acting Inspector Luke Negri.

“Every person on our roads is someone’s loved one.”

“As children return to school this week, we urge drivers to slow down, stay alert and take extra care around school zones”.

“A single unsafe decision can change lives forever. We want every child to arrive at school safely and every road user to get home to the people waiting for them.”

“Every fatal and serious injury crash on our roads is one too many, and we all have a part to play in keeping the roads safe for everyone,” said Acting Inspector Negri.

“Please do the right thing every time you travel on our roads.”

“If you choose to speed, drink or drug drive, use your phone, or take unnecessary risks on the road, you can expect to be detected.”

Anyone with information about dangerous driving and traffic offences is urged to contact police on 131 444, or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
