Police disrupt alleged thieves in the act, two people put before the Court

Police disrupted a group allegedly trying to break into vehicles parked in an enclosed garage on Edinburgh Street overnight.

Just after 2am, Police were alerted to the group who were targeting multiple vehicles when an alarm went off in the building.

Police arrived quickly, locating and apprehending three people. A number of vehicles were observed to have been targeted during the incident.

A 34-year-old female and a 36-year-old male are due to appear in the Auckland District Court today on charges relating to burglary and breach of bail conditions.

A third person has been referred to Youth Aid.

Relieving Auckland City Area Prevention Manager, Acting Inspector Khushwinder Kullar, says the quick actions of officers meant the group were apprehended very quickly.

“Police were alerted to the vehicle break-ins straight away, which meant we could get our staff on scene before they could leave.

“We hope these arrests bring reassurance to the community we will target anyone who seeks to engage in unlawful behaviour, and I encourage the public to report any suspicious behaviour immediately.”
