Police investigate armed robbery at Vincent

Police are investigating after a taxi driver was robbed in Townsville early this morning.

The 40-year-old male driver transported a male passenger to the intersection of Palmerston Street and Beattie Crescent in Vincent around 2.40am before requesting payment.

The passenger grabbed the steering wheel and forced the taxi over to the side of the road before producing a metal instrument from his pocket.

He then punched the driver a number of times and reached into the centre console, taking his money and phone before fleeing.

The taxi driver sustained facial injuries as a result of the robbery.

The man is described as aged in his 20’s with a slim build, dark complexion, bald and was wearing a black t-shirt.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
