Police investigate carjacking in South Coast

An investigation is underway after a young woman had her car stolen at knife-point in Gerringong yesterday.

About 4.45pm (Monday 24 June 2019), an 18-year-old woman parked her car at the rear of a supermarket on Standen Lane, Gerringong, and went to grab some items from the store.

Upon her return the woman was approached by two men who requested a lift to the train station.

They all entered the vehicle and as the woman drove along Camina Avenue one on the men produced a large knife and told the woman to stop the car and get out.

The woman complied, and she stopped the vehicle and got out. Both men then drove away and were last seen turning into fern Street, Gerringong.

Police were called and officers from Lake Illawarra Police District commenced inquiries.

The vehicle, described as a Blue Mitsubishi with peeling paint on the bonnet and NSW registration number BI40ZF, was involved in a brief pursuit with police heading south on the Princes Highway, Nowra about 5.35pm (Monday 24 June 2019).

The pursuit was quickly terminated. The vehicle was reportedly seen again about 5.50pm (Monday 24 June 2019) heading north on the Princes Highway at Bomaderry.
