Police investigate serious assault in Southbank

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a serious assault in Southbank early this morning that has left a man in a critical condition.

It’s believed a Footscray West man was approached by an unknown male about 1.40am on the corner of Clarendon Street and City Road.

The male punched the man and he fell to the ground, hitting his head on the concrete.

The 28-year-old was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries where he remains in a critical condition.

No arrests have been made at this stage and the investigation is ongoing.
