An investigation is underway following a stabbing in Wollongong yesterday.
About 3pm (Sunday 13 September 2020), emergency services were called to a unit on Johanson Crescent, Mangerton, after reports a man had been stabbed.
Police have been told the man was at a friend’s house on Myuna Way, when he became involved in an argument with another man, before he was stabbed.
The injured man left the house and returned to Johanson Crescent, where emergency services were notified.
A 44-year-old man was treated at the scene for a stab wound to the chest, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.
Officers from Wollongong Police District established crime scenes at both houses and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
While police were tending to the injured man, it will be alleged the occupant, a 59-year-old man, attempted to enter the house multiple times after it had been declared a crime scene, before he struck a senior constable in the head with his arm.
The man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 3 November 2020.
