Police investigate suspicious fire in Collingwood

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses after a business was damaged and set on fire in Collingwood early this morning.

Emergency services responded to reports three people smashed the windows at a shop on Smith Street before setting it on fire just before 3am.

It’s believed the offenders used hammers to break the front glass window of the store before setting it on fire and fleeing the scene in a silver SUV.

The fire was extinguished, and police located jerry cans nearby.

Officers patrolled the area but were unable to locate the offenders.

The fire has been deemed suspicious and investigation remain ongoing.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen persons acting suspiciously or who may have seen a silver SUV in the area around the time of the fire, with information or CCTV/Dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
