Police remain in attendance at Bishops Drive, Newnham, investigating an isolated incident.
A man in his 20s has been transported to the Launceston General Hospital in a serious condition with what is believed to be a gunshot wound to the chest.
It is believed the incident was between people known to each other.
Police are actively investigating the incident to identify and locate the offender and the weapon involved.
