A man is due in court today, charged after an elderly woman woke to find a person in her home in West Tamworth.
Officers from Oxley Police District were called to Cossa Street shortly before 6.30am yesterday (Monday 16 May 2022), after an 89-year-old woman reported a man had entered her bedroom. She screamed and the man ran away.
Police established a crime scene and conducted a comprehensive canvass of the area, with Scene of Crime Officers examining the location.
Following inquiries, a 23-year-old man was arrested at a home on Sue Crescent about 4pm and was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there, and break and enter house etc steal.
The man has been refused bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court later today (Tuesday 17 May 2022).
Inquiries are continuing.
A number of items have been recovered and are undergoing forensic examination.
