Police lay charges after man dies at Fairfield

A man will face court today charged over his alleged involvement in the death of another man in Sydney’s south-west.

Just before 10.30pm on Tuesday (24 October 2023), police will allege in court that two men, aged 40 and 36, were involved in an argument in a public thoroughfare off The Crescent in Fairfield.

It will be further alleged the younger man assaulted the 40-year-old man, who then fell to the ground.

The 36-year-old man allegedly then placed him on a nearby bench and ran from the area.

About 10.20am on Wednesday (25 October 2023), a passer-by found the older man unresponsive and called emergency services.

The 40-year-old man was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command established a crime scene, and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, the 36-year-old man attended Fairfield Police Station yesterday (Thursday 26 October 2023), where he was arrested and charged with assault causing death.

The Cabramatta West man was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Friday 27 October 2023).
