About 6.20pm (Saturday 13 May 2023), police were called to a home on Samarai Road, Whalan, after reports a man had been detained following an altercation with other occupants – known to him – at the property.

Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command attended and spoke with a 25-year-old man who had allegedly been threatened with a knife and told to handover money. During a struggle with a male occupant, he fell out a window and ran off.

A perimeter was established with the assistance of the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU), PolAir and the Dog Squad after it was ascertained a man, woman and her three children were inside the property.

Following negotiations, the man and woman were arrested without incident after exiting the home about 8.30pm.

The 41-year-old woman was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station while the 38-year-old man was treated by paramedics and taken to Mt Druitt Hospital as a precaution before being escorted back to the station.

They have both been charged with detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage and refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 14 May 2023).

The children are in the care of Family and Community services.
