Armed Crime Taskforce detectives have charged a man following an incident in Pakenham Upper on 25 March.
It is alleged an armed man threatened police.
A firearm was discharged by officers and the man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
The 35-year-old was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
He has been charged with attempted murder and assault an emergency worker.
