Northern Territory Police have charged a 30-year-old man following an incident in Alice Springs on 6 June 2019.
Police responded to a domestic incident around 3:30am yesterday. On arrival, they located a woman with a small stab wound to her back and the alleged offender fled the scene.
The woman was transported to hospital and police conducted patrols for the 30-year-old male. The male was located hiding in the front of the residence and police attempted to apprehend him, causing him to flee.
Two police officers ended up in a violent scuffle with the male in which he is alleged to have punched an officer to the head. The man was eventually subdued and taken into custody.
He was scheduled to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today for:
• Aggravated assault
• Engage in conduct that contravenes DVO
• Assault a member of the police force
• Resist police in the execution of duty
Commander Bradley Currie said the behaviour of the man is completely unacceptable.
“Violence on anyone, let alone our family, is appalling behaviour. We have a duty to protect people from this abhorrent behaviour and we will continue to take action accordingly”
“When police are undertaking their duties they are representing the community they serve. Any assault on a police officer is an affront to the community at large,” he said.
