Police lay charges – Aggravated robbery at Casuarina 18 February

Northern Territory Police have charged three men in relation to an aggravated robbery in Casuarina yesterday.

At around 5pm, police received reports that three men had allegedly stolen from a number of businesses before assaulting a 46-year-old man outside a shopping centre on Trower Road.

The offenders allegedly stole the man’s cigarettes and sunglasses before fleeing the scene.

All three offenders were arrested a short time later on Trower Road after the Dog Operations Unit deployed Patrol Dog Wedge.

Detectives from Serious Crime have since charged all three offenders, aged 24, 28 and 36, with aggravated robbery.

The males are expected to be remanded in custody before appearing in Darwin Local Court at a later date.

Senior Sergeant Neil Mellon said, “The deployment of PD Wedge resulted in the safe apprehension of three offenders, who otherwise may have attempted to evade custody.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said, “A number of policing units including general duties, Dog Operations, Strike Force Trident and Serious Crime worked together to ensure these three men face court for their actions.

“The actions of these men were violent and unprovoked. The offences took place in public areas, causing distress to shoppers, and it will not be tolerated. The swift response by police should send a clear message to others.”

Anyone who witnessed these incidents at Casuarina yesterday is asked to contact police 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
