The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested and charged a 22-year-old woman following an alleged domestic violence incident in Tennant Creek on Tuesday evening.
It is alleged around 9pm, police received reports of an assault occurring at a residence in Wuppa Camp. Investigations indicate the offender allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old female family member who was holding a four-month-old infant at the time.
During the incident, both the teenager and infant allegedly sustained injuries after being punched and kicked. The infant was conveyed to Tennant Creek Hospital by ambulance and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Around 11:30pm that evening, police located and arrested the 22-year-old. She has since been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and is scheduled to appear before the Tennant Creek Local Court today.
Tennant Creek Acting Superintendent Michael Fields said, “This is a deeply concerning incident that highlights the devastating impact family and domestic violence can have on vulnerable members of our community, particularly children.
“Violence of any kind is unacceptable, and police will continue to take strong action to hold offenders accountable and ensure the safety of victims.
“We encourage anyone experiencing family or domestic violence, or anyone who witnesses such behaviour, to seek assistance and report it to police.”
