Police lay charges – Domestic violence at Tennant Creek

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to a domestic violence incident in Tennant Creek on Saturday.

At around 12:40am, police received reports that a 21-year-old man had allegedly assaulted his female partner while threatening her with an edged weapon at a residence.

The victim has fled the residence where a witness has intervened and disarmed the man.

Investigations determined that the alleged offender was involved in another serious assault on his partner on 16 April 2022.

The 21-year-old was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with:

  • 2 x Sexual intercourse without consent
  • 9 x Aggravated assault
  • 1 x Recklessly endanger serious harm
  • 1 x Recklessly endanger life
  • 1 x Threats to kill
  • 1 x Deprivation of liberty
  • 7 x Armed with controlled weapon at night

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court tomorrow.

Senior Sergeant Marcus Becker said, “This behaviour is completely reprehensible.

“The majority of assaults in Tennant Creek are domestic violence related and incidents such as these cause trauma that ripples through families and communities.
