Police lay charges – Going armed in public at Casuarina 10 December

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man for going armed in public in Casuarina overnight.

Police patrolling the area observed the 36-year-old man approaching a group of people seated on the ground in a shopping centre carpark. As he got closer to the group, he allegedly produced an edged weapon.

Officers issued instruction to the man to drop the weapon. He immediately complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said, “This man was very close to members of the public when he produced the weapon and quick thinking by our officers resulted in a swift arrest and no harm done to members of the public.”

The man was charged with:

  • Going armed in public
  • Possess / Carry / Use controlled weapon

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
