Police lay charges – Update2: Suspicious death investigation at Collingwood Park, QLD

A 26-year-old Zillmere man has been charged following investigations into the death of two people at Collingwood Park on January 23.

Just before 1am emergency services were called to a Hannant Street residence after initial reports of a disturbance and found the lower level of a two-storey house alight.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, and the bodies of two people, a 68-year-old woman and her 73-year-old husband, the only occupants, were located inside the home.

The man has been charged overnight with two counts of murder, one count of arson and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Detective Acting Superintendent Stephen Blanchfield thanked the community for the public assistance provided to date.

“We continue to appeal for anyone who may have dashcam footage in the area of Zillmere Road, Aspley and Robinson Road West, Geebung between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, January 22 to contact police.

“Specifically, we remain interested in the movements of a black Mercedes Benz between those times which belonged to the victims and was allegedly stolen from the crime scene at Collingwood Park.

“While the vehicle has been located, any information regarding its movements is of great importance to us while investigations are ongoing,” Detective Acting Superintendent Blanchfield said.
