Police make arrest after cars rammed

A man has been arrested after a number of cars, including police vehicles, were allegedly rammed last night.

Officers were initially called to a car dealership in Ingles Street, Port Melbourne about 5.45pm after reports of a man in a red Range Rover behaving suspiciously.

On arrival police noted the Range Rover was an allegedly stolen vehicle and parked across an exit in an attempt to stop the vehicle from leaving

The Range Rover left the dealership and struck the front of the police vehicle before driving off.

The 4WD was later seen parked at a service station in Beach Road, Sandringham.

Police attempted to block the Range Rover in but again the vehicle drove of hitting two police cars and a civilian vehicle.

The 4WD was dumped in Fernhill Road, Sandringham and the offender allegedly stole a Toyota Corolla and drove off towards Ferntree Gully.

The Corolla was spotted unattended at a convenience store on Springvale Road, Glen Waverley a short time later.

Officers attended and arrested a 31-year-old Wendouree man inside the store.

He was interviewed and charged with aggravated offence of intentionally exposing a police officer to risk by driving, theft of motor vehicle and numerous other traffic offences.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

An officer suffered an injury to his arm in the initial incident.
