Police make arrest after evade police incident

Regional Investigations Unit detectives have charged a man involved in several incidents including an evade police incident yesterday afternoon, 18 February 2020.

It is alleged during the early hours of Sunday morning, 16 February 2020, the man stole a blue BMW 530 sedan from a secure parking area at a South Perth residence.

Around 4.50pm yesterday, police observed the stolen BMW travelling along Great Eastern Highway in Rivervale. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but the driver allegedly drove off at speed.

The police helicopter was in the area and assisted ground officers by monitoring the movements of the BMW.

The driver of the BMW allegedly drove dangerously and recklessly through various streets from Rivervale through to Sawyers Valley.

At the intersection of Brooking Road near Mundaring the driver drove over a stinger tyre deflation system which deflated the BMW’s two front tyres. It is alleged he continued to drive at excessive speed as the front tyres of the BMW began to deteriorate.

It is further alleged he continued to drive the vehicle with shredded tyres and on metal rims through Mundaring. The man jumped from the vehicle on Great Eastern Highway, leaving the car rolling.

The BMW struck a cutting, deploying the airbags and trapping a passenger inside. The driver was apprehended by police a short time later.

A 20-year-old man from Woodbridge is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, 19 February 2020 charged with:-

• Steal Motor Vehicle;

• Reckless driving;

• Driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop;
