Police make arrest – Aggravated assault at Tennant Creek 3 August

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to a domestic violence incident in Tennant Creek.

At around midday today, police received reports that a man was assaulting a female on the Stuart Highway, 15km south of Tennant Creek.

He allegedly forced the woman into a vehicle before driving into the bush.

Tennant Creek Crime and general duties officers apprehended the vehicle a short time later, where a 27-year-old man was arrested. He is expected to be charged later today.

The female victim was conveyed to Tenant Creek Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Senior Sergeant Crispin Gargan said, “Multiple units responded to this incident, including members from Tennant Creek, Ali Curung and Ti Tree.

“We are in the early stages of this investigation, however, this is being treated as a domestic violence incident. We urge anyone experiencing domestic or family violence to reach out on 131 444 or in an emergency call 000.”
