Police make arrest – Domestic violence in Katherine

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to a serious domestic violence incident in Katherine overnight.

At around 11:30pm, police received reports that a female had been allegedly assaulted by her 39-year-old male partner at a residence in Katherine.

The victim was conveyed to Katherine Base Hospital in a stable condition while her partner allegedly fled the scene. He was arrested a short time later by police.

He is expected to be charged later today with aggravated assault, armed with an offensive weapon and engage in conduct in contravention of a DVO .

Detective Sergeant Jeremy Brunton said, “Investigations are ongoing with a number of witnesses already spoken to.

“Domestic violence has no place within our community and police would urge anyone who is the victim of domestic or family violence to reach out on 131 444, or in an emergency call 000.”
