Police make arrest – Property offences in Alice Springs 9 August

Northern Territory Police Northern Territory Police have arrested a man wanted for a number of property offences, after he was found hiding in a cupboard of a house in Alice Springs.

On July 16 the man allegedly unlawfully entered a Lyndavale home and stole a quantity of alcohol, cash and jewellery before stealing the vehicle parked at the address. The stolen vehicle was used to smash out of the fenced property, causing significant damage.

The stolen vehicle was located abandoned in a nearby street.

The man is further alleged to have unlawfully entered a second property in the same street where he smashed a glass sliding door before fleeing the scene.

Strike Force Viper investigations identified a 19 year old man, who was actively avoiding police until he was observed by officers at a shopping centre on Saturday.

The man was pursued on foot before he fled in a taxi and was later located hiding from police in a cupboard at a residence in Larapinta.

The man was arrested and taken to the Alice Springs Watch House where he was charged with;

  • Unlawful entry
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Stealing
  • Damage to property x 2
  • Trespass
  • Breach suspended sentence

The man was remanded into custody and will appear in the Alice Springs Local court at a later date.
