Police make arrests after stolen BMW drove into water at Paralowie, South Australia

Police have arrested two men and are looking for a third after a stolen car was spotted overnight in Burton.

Just before 1am on Friday 1 May, patrols located a stolen BMW sedan on Hopner Avenue with three occupants but did not pursue it. Additional patrols converged on the area and the car was again spotted a short time later as it drove onto McQueen Court Reserve off Fairbanks Drive at Paralowie before entering a catchment area adjacent McQueen Court.

Patrols quickly arrested one of the passengers while the driver fled across the reserve. A second passenger remained in the water for a short time before succumbing to the cold.

A 20-year-old man from Mawson Lakes was charged with illegal use and bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 4 August. The other passenger, a 22-year-old man of no fixed address, was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital for a medical assessment and is expected to be charged later today.

A search of the area failed to locate the driver and investigations are continuing.

The BMW was stolen form a Hyde Park address overnight on Monday 27 April.
