Police make arrests after Sunshine armed robbery

Police have arrested six teenage boys following an armed robbery at a licenced premises in Sunshine last night (12 January).

It is alleged a number of males entered the Durham Street business about 10.30pm attempting to purchase alcohol but were asked to leave the bottle shop due to their age.

It’s alleged one of the teenagers took a slab of beer and walked out of the store without paying while some of the group remained in the store.

One of the teenagers jumped onto the counter and allegedly produced a machete while the others stole more alcohol before leaving the store.

A male staff member was allegedly assaulted from behind, causing him to fall to the ground before the group ran from the scene.

Specialist police units attended a short time later and arrested six males nearby.

The staff member did not require medical treatment.

A 14-year-old Wyndham Vale boy, 14-year-old Albanvale boy and a 15-year-old Sunshine West boy have been charged with armed robbery and will appear in a children’s court later today.

A 14-year-old Sunshine North boy has been charged with recklessly cause injury and bailed to appear in a children’s court at a later date.

A 14-year-old Hoppers Crossing boy has been charged with theft and bailed to appear in a children’s court at a later date.

A 16-year-old boy was charged for theft on unrelated matters and bailed to appear in a children’s court at a later date.
