Police make arrests – Aggravated Robbery and Stealing in Darwin Region

Northern Territory Police have arrested two youths, aged 15, for separate offences in the Darwin Region.

At about 3:30pm yesterday, a 15-year-old male entered a supermarket in Wagaman with a group of youths. The youth has allegedly lit a firework and has thrown it at the staff member. The firework has exploded on the staff member’s foot causing minor injuries.

The group allegedly stole a number of shop items before fleeing the scene. The 15-year-old was leaving the shop when he assaulted a 65-year-old man, knocking him to the ground.

Later that evening, police CCTV located the 15-year-old in Palmerston, in possession of the stolen items. He was arrested at the scene by police and taken to Palmerston Watch House.

Strike Force Trident detectives have charged the youth with;

  • Aggravated robbery
  • Aggravated assault
  • Intent to disfigure or disable by explosive substance
  • Serious breach of bail
  • Breach of suspended sentence

The youth was remanded to appear in court tomorrow.

Additionally, Strike force Trident detectives have arrested another 15-year-old male for assault and stealing offences.

On Sunday, the 15-year-old was at a shopping centre in Casuarina, where he allegedly stole a number of items from a clothing shop.

The youth then attended the nearby Bus Exchange and approached a 14-year-old male demanding personal items, before assaulting him.

Trident detectives arrested the 15-year-old yesterday and he was charged with;

  • assault with intent to steal
  • stealing
  • breach of bail
  • breach of suspended sentence

He was refused police bail and was later remanded to appear in court today.
