Police officer charged – drink driving in Darwin

An off-duty Northern Territory Police Officer has been charged with drink driving this morning.

The 46-year-old male was subject to a roadside breath test at a Random Breath Testing station set up as part of the NT Police Easter road safety campaign, Operation Thalen.

The officer tested positive for a range above the legal limit and was arrested for purposes of a breath analysis.

He subsequently returned a high range breath analysis reading of 0.158.

He was charged with High Range Drink Driving and his driver’s licence immediately disqualified.

He has been bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 21 April 2021.

The officer has been directed to take leave.
